General Information

The CCQTA completed a study in 2017 to evaluate blends of Alberta bitumen and diluents against known viscosity blend models. Results of the study found that none of those existing models were ideal for predicting blend viscosity, so a new empirical model was developed using multiple linear regression. This calculator uses the new CCQTA model developed using 668 data points of Alberta specific viscosity data.

ASTM D341 can be used to estimate viscosity if the required input or output temperatures are not available. Blend density can be estimated using our blending tool.

Viscosity measurements are highly sensitive and affected by numerous factors. This tool is for rough estimates only.
